Company ProfileTherics, Inc. founded in 1996, designs, develops and manufactures a variety of synthetic bone substitue products that promote the growth of bone eliminating the risk of disease transmission. In July 2005, Therics, LLC was formed as an Ohio limited liablity company by Randy Theken through the purchase of ownership from Tredegar Corp. The company produces a line of Beta-Tricalcium Phosphate (ß-TCP) products using a patented technology, Theriform. This Theriform technology is a "3-D" printing process that manufactures devices from the inside-out versus the outside-in. Printheads travel back and forth across a fine layer-bed of ß-TCP, delivering microdroplets of binder solution which binds the powder particles creating a cross-section. This process continues cross-section by cross-section until the specified product is complete. Through this method, Therics can control both essential elements of a true scaffolding material...the micro architecture (internal interconnectivity of the pores) and the macro architechture (profile shape). The control of the internal micro architecture is essential for cell migration and vessel ingrowth, thus producing a solid bone fusion. With this patented Theriform process, Therics is the only company which can produce and control the micro architecture which is imperative to the final result, solid bone fusion. Therics markets its products in the US through a national network of independent orthopedic agencies, as well as private labeled products to other medical device companies. Theken Family of Companies History Randy Theken (pronounced “taken”) is the founder of four orthopaedic medical device companies, known as the Theken Family of Companies. Theken Disc, LLC designs and develops high-technology medical device products, such as a microelectronic artificial replacement spinal disc. Therics, LLC designs, develops and manufacturers a variety of synthetic bone substitute products. A master-degreed electrical and mechanical engineer, Randy Theken and his rapidly growing family of companies are making significant impact on the spinal implant industry. Mr. Theken was born and raised in Northeast Ohio. He became interested in spinal implants while conducting research for his thesis at the University of Akron. After finishing graduate school, he founded Theken Orthopaedic. Five years later, he founded Theken Spine. In mid-2003, Theken Disc was founded to specifically focus on R&D development of next generation spinal arthroplasty devices. July 2005 Mr. Theken formed Therics, LLC, as an Ohio limited liablity company, through the purchase of ownership from Tredegar Corp. |
